UNSC Condemns Kohat Terror Attack
The United Nations Security Council condemned the terrorist attack in Kohat district, Pakistan, calling for accountability of those responsible.
At least 23 people were killed, including 17 policemen and six civilians, when an explosives‑laden vehicle detonated near a mosque during Friday prayers and attackers stormed the police compound.
Police and security forces responded, killing eight terrorists. The attack was claimed by the Hafiz Gul Bahadur‑led Ittehadul Mujahideen.
In a statement, Council President Jérôme Bonnafont, representing France, described the bombing as “heinous and cowardly” and urged all states to cooperate with Pakistan to hold perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors accountable.
Member states expressed sympathy to victims’ families and stressed that terrorism threatens international peace and security. The UNSC reaffirmed the need for all states to combat terrorism in accordance with international law.
Following the attack, KP police cleared key parts of the compound, and the armed forces conducted airstrikes on terrorist sites in the border region with Afghanistan, killing more than 28 terrorists.
