LHC Summons Punjab IG Over Police Contempt
The Lahore High Court has summoned Punjab Inspector General Rao Abdul Kareem over a contempt petition concerning police conduct.
The petition was filed by citizen Mian Muhammad Jamil, who argued that a 2021 sessions court order to register a first information report (FIR) against him was suspended by a single bench of the LHC, yet the police registered a case against him unlawfully.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Aalia Neelum asked the Superintendent of Police Abdullah to read the FIR aloud, but he could not properly narrate its contents. The judge expressed displeasure at the unreadable nature of the FIR, describing it as resembling “flies.”
Chief Justice Neelum also summoned the IG in person for Thursday, along with the relevant record. In a separate case, she rejected an inquiry report in a contempt matter against a Lahore capital city police officer, after a citizen Momin Khan alleged ongoing harassment despite court orders.
