Pakistan Signals Cautious Shift on US Iran Sanctions
Pakistan has signaled a cautious shift in its approach to U.S. sanctions on Iran, stating it will adhere to all applicable sanctions regimes under international and domestic law.
Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said the country remains a responsible member of the international community and will continue to comply with all applicable sanctions regimes in accordance with international and domestic laws.
The new wording expands beyond the earlier emphasis on international law and bilateral trade commitments with Tehran, acknowledging that U.S. sanctions can affect Pakistani banks and companies operating within the international financial system.
Pakistan has not announced a suspension of trade with Iran or joined the U.S. sanctions campaign, but it has reiterated its commitment to multilateralism and its strategic partnership with Washington.
Pakistan also reaffirmed its role as a mediator, urging both the U.S. and Iran to exercise restraint and resolve differences through diplomacy.
