Court Halts Deportation of 86 Afghan Students

Peshawar High Court has issued a temporary stay on the deportation of 86 Afghan students enrolled in public sector medical colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, allowing them to continue their studies.

The bench, composed of Justices Wiqar Ahmad and Farah Jamshed, issued notices to the federal interior secretary, director general of immigration and passport, and the registrar of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, seeking comments on the petition filed by the students, including Selsela Dost.

The court set the next hearing for October 12 and directed that the students should not be deported until then, and that they may continue their studies unless another reason arises. It also merged the petition with a prior case filed by Afghan student Seemen Noori.

The order follows earlier relief granted by the Lahore High Court on September 11, which suspended the operation of a PMDC order that had cancelled Afghan student admissions nationwide. The Peshawar High Court also halted the arrest or deportation of 17 Afghan doctors in the provincial capital on September 23, allowing them to continue postgraduate training.
