PCB Expands School Cricket Program Nationwide

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a comprehensive expansion of its school cricket initiative, aiming to identify and nurture talent across the country. The program, set to roll out in the upcoming academic year, will introduce structured coaching clinics, talent scouting camps, and a national ranking system for student cricketers in over 2,000 schools nationwide.

Under the new framework, each participating school will receive a certified coach and access to a digital platform that tracks player performance through metrics such as batting averages, bowling economy, and fielding efficiency. The PCB will conduct quarterly regional tournaments, with top performers earning invitations to centralized training camps held at the National Cricket Academy in Karachi. These camps will feature specialized coaching from former international players and current national team members, providing students with exposure to high‑level techniques and game strategy.

The initiative is backed by a multi‑million‑rupee investment from the PCB’s development fund, supplemented by sponsorships from corporate partners and the Ministry of Education. Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding players, covering school fees, equipment, and travel expenses for national and international tournaments. The board also plans to collaborate with provincial education authorities to integrate cricket modules into physical education curricula, ensuring a steady pipeline of young talent.

PCB Secretary, Muhammad Shahid, emphasized that the program seeks to democratize access to cricket, especially in under‑represented regions. “By bringing professional coaching to every corner of Pakistan, we aim to uncover hidden gems and strengthen the future of our national team,” he said. The board anticipates that the initiative will not only elevate the standard of domestic cricket but also provide a structured pathway for students to transition into professional leagues and the national squad.

Cricket analyst and former captain Babar Azam highlighted the importance of grassroots development, noting that “a robust school program is the bedrock of sustained success on the international stage.” With the launch of this nationwide effort, the PCB signals its commitment to building a resilient talent pipeline that reflects the country’s diverse sporting potential.
