PTI Vows March Despite Arrests
PTI leaders in Peshawar announced they will hold a protest on Sept 27 in Islamabad, despite the arrest of lawmakers and supporters from across the country.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said the parliamentary committee will “forcefully exercise” the right to peaceful protest. He cited the arrest of Imran Khan’s sisters, firing on cabinet minister Shakeel Khan, and the alleged abduction of Labour Minister Fazal Shakoor Khan as attempts to spoil the party’s march.
PTI interim chairman Gohar Ali Khan said 1,500 party workers had been detained. He listed five MNAs, an ex‑senator, and an MPA arrested in Islamabad, and claimed that even PTI ministers were being arrested in their own province.
The party condemned the detention of lawmakers from Parliament Lodges and outside the National Assembly, naming Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel, Dawar Khan Kundi, Ahsan Jamal Khan, Mian Ghaus, Adil Khan Bazai, and Chitral MPA Fatehul Mulk, and called for their immediate release.
An Anti‑Terrorism Court remanded two PTI men in police custody for 10 days in a case linked to the Nov 26 protest. The court also ordered five PTI workers arrested in connection with a Feb 15 protest to be sent to Adiala jail for an identification parade, and directed the release of a vendor named Rana Shahbaz for a similar process.
Tehreek‑i‑Tahafuz Ayeen‑i‑Pakistan expressed concern over the arrests, road closures, and the detention of Imran Khan’s sisters, urging the government to reconsider its approach and release all detained political workers and citizens.
