The Sindh government has extended the term of the judicial commission investigating the murder of Mir Raza Ali until October 15, giving the panel more time to complete its inquiry.
The commission, formed on 24 August, is headed by Justice Omar Sial and was created to examine the facts surrounding Ali’s death and determine any negligence in the investigation. It has conducted extensive proceedings, recording statements of dozens of witnesses.
The commission’s 30 day tenure expired on 23 September. A cabinet meeting on 1 October approved the extension, allowing the commission to resume its work on 2 October. The extension was granted after the cabinet was briefed that more time was needed to compile findings and recommendations.
The commission is set to resume proceedings tomorrow. The decision follows a series of developments, including the exhumation of Ali’s body, a second autopsy confirming a gunshot wound, and the reconstitution of the investigative team.
