Uzma, Noreen Detained in Lahore for 30 Days
Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were detained in Lahore for 30 days under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, following an order dated September 20.
The Lahore Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz issued the detention order, citing the sisters as prejudicial to public safety and maintenance of public order. The order stated that they had participated in the May 9 protest and had motivated workers to damage public and government property.
Both sisters will remain in custody at Central Jail Kot Lakhpat. The order also noted that they were involved in mobilising workers through social media and public meetings, and that multiple cases had been registered against them.
PTI condemned the arrests as a blatant abuse of authority and a violation of fundamental rights. The party’s Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram accused Punjab police of abducting the sisters and their children, while PTI lawyer Awais Younas Chaudhry confirmed that all three of Imran Khan’s sisters had been arrested.
Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan was also detained under a similar order. The detentions are part of a broader crackdown on PTI ahead of the party’s September 27 protest, which calls for the release of Imran Khan from jail and a march to Islamabad.
