Pakistan Leads UNGA Diplomacy on US‑Iran Talks

Pakistan remained front and centre at the 81st UN General Assembly, with its leaders pushing for renewed US‑Iran talks.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met with world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, who praised Shehbaz as a “terrific man”.

Trump noted a three‑hour meeting with an Iranian delegation that he described as productive, and said another meeting is scheduled soon.

Pakistan has urged Washington and Tehran to keep indirect contacts and remain open to direct talks; UN Secretary‑General António Guterres praised Pakistan’s mediation efforts.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar also joined a Regional‑4 ministerial meeting with foreign ministers of Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to the R‑4 framework.

The Pakistani delegation met leaders from Somalia, Austria, Kenya and Kuwait during the session.
