Tallal Criticizes KP Police Law Changes

Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s proposed replacement of the KP Police Act, 2017, on Thursday.

The new law would curtail the powers of the inspector general of police by making operational, administrative and financial decisions subject to approval from the provincial government or chief minister.

Chaudhry warned that the changes could weaken the police command structure, affecting discipline and morale within the force.

He also cited inadequate resources, lower salaries, lack of protective equipment and the composition of a six‑member body that would include only provincial assembly members.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said the law would turn police into a “slave” and would not approve it if it reached his office.

The proposed law is set to be sent to the provincial assembly, and federal options remain open.
