JI Postpones Islamabad March, Keeps Protest

Jamaat‑i‑Islami postponed its long march to Islamabad after a phone call with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The decision was announced in Multan where the party caravan had arrived.

The party said it would not abandon protests against the petroleum levy. Workers will stay on the ground and sit‑ins will continue until a meeting with the PM.

JI had held demonstrations at 510 locations and sit‑ins at 42 sites nationwide. It criticized the fuel relief scheme and said the government’s monthly levy of Rs150 bn outweighs the Rs25 bn relief.

The party will meet the PM after his return from the United States to discuss the levy. If the government offers relief, the march may resume in October; otherwise, the party will continue the march with the same force.
