Two Police Martyred Protecting Polio Team

Two police constables were martyred on Tuesday while guarding a female polio vaccination team in Noshki, Balochistan.

The officers were protecting the team when armed assailants on a motorcycle opened fire. The team and its members were unharmed.

The attackers fled the scene after taking the officers’ weapons. The anti‑polio campaign in the area has been suspended.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack and offered condolences to the families. He vowed exemplary punishment for those responsible.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti requested a report from the Home Department and said police were investigating motives.

Pakistan remains one of the last two countries where polio is endemic. The week‑long campaign began on Monday to inoculate 2.3 million children under five.

The attack came after environmental samples detected the virus in the province.
