LHC Seeks Reply on Aleema Khan Detention
The Lahore High Court has requested a reply from the Punjab home secretary regarding a petition that challenges the detention of Aleema Khan under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.
Aleema Khan was detained on September 20 after a deputy commissioner order citing police reports that she and Ameer were prejudicial to public safety. The petition argues that the order was issued without specific allegations, failed to follow procedural requirements, and that less restrictive measures were not considered.
The court also directed counsel to file a separate application about Aleema’s difficulties in receiving medicines while in custody. The detention occurred amid a crackdown on the PTI ahead of its September 27 protest, and the court previously declined to suspend similar orders against her sisters.
