UK police detain five men near US airbase

Five men were detained by UK police near RAF Fairford, a US airbase used for strikes on Iran.

Police received a tip that three large white vans were heading to the airfield and arrested the men early Sunday.

The suspects are being questioned on suspicion of explosives and terrorism offences.

Investigators consider an Iranian‑linked motive most likely, but also look at Russian sabotage or Islamist plots.

The base was cordoned and 85 homes evacuated; a bomb disposal robot was deployed around the vans.

UK authorities have not released details of the suspects and the investigation remains ongoing.
