Pakistan Calls for Afghan Govt to Drop Militant…
Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the Afghan interim government must abandon its militant mindset, calling it the root of the current problems between the two neighbours.
Tarar spoke at a seminar in Islamabad on Afghanistan and prospects for peace, describing the situation as a complex conundrum that requires a long‑lasting, sustainable solution.
He highlighted Pakistan’s repeated concerns over cross‑border terrorism, noting that the Afghan soil has been used for terrorist activities and that Pakistan has responded with strikes against those groups.
Tarar also criticised the Afghan Taliban for denying basic human rights to certain segments of society, citing the imposition of a specific brand of Islam that he said was not the Taliban’s true ideology.
He argued that peace would unlock Afghanistan’s potential, including the development of trade routes from Central Asia through Afghanistan to Pakistan, which would benefit all citizens.
Recent incidents included Pakistan’s calibrated airstrikes against terrorist hideouts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and precision strikes in Afghanistan following drone incursions that violated Pakistani airspace.
