Pakistan GST Cut Lowers Hybrid Prices
Pakistan’s government cut the general sales tax on vehicles up to 2,000cc from 25% to 18% on September 13, lowering hybrid electric vehicle prices.
Assemblers such as Mega Motor Company, Honda Atlas Cars Ltd, Indus Motor Company and Toyota have reduced prices for their HEVs, with Toyota Corolla Cross HEV X dropping to Rs9.729m and HR‑V e:HEV to Rs9.299m.
Mega Motor Company announced BYD reached 10,000 vehicles on Pakistani roads, the fastest ramp‑up for a new energy vehicle brand in the country.
The price cuts are temporary and limited to available stock; new retail prices apply to orders invoiced from September 25.
The change follows the expiration of the 2021‑26 Automotive Industrial Development Policy, which had set GST at 8.5% for EVs, and the industry had been waiting for a new policy framework.
Assemblers expect sales to return to normal in the coming months, with deliveries scheduled over the next two months, despite geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
