Trump Restores TV Access for Xi Visit

US television networks regained White House coverage during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit after a federal judge restored access to CNN, MS NOW and Politico.

The White House press pool aired live footage of Xi’s arrival for tea and a tour of the National Archives on Friday, the final day of the visit.

CNN, ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC share costs of covering the president and rotate coverage, providing pool footage to other outlets.

The other networks declined to set up cameras in solidarity, so no pool coverage was available for the first two days of Xi’s visit.

CNN said it had been barred from traveling with Trump on Air Force One for a weekend trip to Tennessee.

Trump has repeatedly restricted media access and has sued outlets, citing false or negative coverage.

The judge’s order restores access but the case remains pending, with outlets having until September 28 to seek a permanent injunction.

Trump declined to answer reporters on China, Iran, the media ban or a taxpayer‑funded TV ad, but later thanked reporters for fair coverage.

The White House has not yet responded to requests for comment on the restored access.
