Pakistan’s Dar: India Can’t Suspend IWT

Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said India cannot set aside its international obligations, including the Indus Waters Treaty.

India unilaterally suspended the treaty in April 2025, a move that led to a brief military clash in May 2025.

In August 2025, the Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled that the treaty remains fully in force, finding no justification for India to end or suspend it.

Dar reiterated at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir that the treaty is a binding agreement with no provision for unilateral suspension.
