Punjab Govt Requests Rangers for Rawalpindi

Punjab government has requested the federal government to deploy Pakistan Rangers to Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali from September 22 to October 5 to support police amid an expected PTI protest on September 27.

The deployment plan calls for three Rangers companies in Rawalpindi, one for the city and two for Taxila, five wings in Attock, and one company each in Jhelum and Mianwali.

The request is made under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan, sections of the Anti‑Terrorism Act and the Rangers Ordinance.

After a review at the 59th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Cabinet on Law & Order on September 20, the Punjab Home Department sent a requisition to the Ministry of Interior for the deployment.

Security preparations include more than 22,000 personnel in the federal capital and over 30,000 in Attock, with army units already stationed in Rawalpindi for sensitive duties.

Similar deployments have been used by Punjab during Muharram, elections and heightened terror alerts.
