UK Airbase Declares Major Incident

Police declared a major incident at RAF Fairford, a UK airbase used by US forces, after arresting several men on suspicion of explosives offences.

The arrests followed the deployment of about 30 emergency vehicles, including police cars, ambulances and fire engines, around the village of Fairford.

Army specialist explosive ordnance disposal teams are inspecting a number of vehicles, while the base’s main gate was blocked by armed police.

The US Air Force spokesperson said the 501st Combat Support Wing would remain vigilant, but did not disclose specific force protection measures.

Britain has authorised US use of RAF Fairford for strikes on Iranian missile sites, and has warned of potential threats from Iran and Russia.
