ATC Postpones Verdict in Aleema Protest Case
The anti‑terrorism court in Rawalpindi postponed announcing its verdict in the November 2024 protest case involving Aleema Khan. The court had originally scheduled September 25 for the announcement but has now set October 1 as the new date.
Judge Amjad Ali Shah had reserved the verdict on September 22. After the judge went on leave, the court deferred the announcement.
Lawyer Faisal Malik, representing Aleema, said the court had not heard the defence’s arguments. He argued that the reserved verdict was unlawful because the accused’s counsel had not been allowed to present arguments.
The case, known as the November 26 protest case, stemmed from a protest where more than 10,000 PTI supporters entered Islamabad, defying a ban on public gatherings and a lockdown. The protest ended with clashes between security forces and protesters, leading to the arrest of several PTI leaders. Aleema Khan and 10 others were booked in the case registered at Sadiqabad police station.
