Yemen Launches Operation vs Houthis
Yemen’s internationally recognized government announced the start of a major military operation against the Houthi rebels to retake territory and extend state authority.
The televised address by President Rashad al-Alimi said the operation would seize the remaining territory under Houthi control.
Saudi Arabia leads aerial combat while Yemeni forces fight on the ground, according to regional officials.
Yemen’s armed forces struck Houthi targets in Sanaa, Saada and Taiz, deepening the conflict that has plagued the country for years.
The renewed fighting follows a 2022 truce that collapsed after Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi shipping and oil infrastructure.
The operation marks a return to full‑scale civil war, with the Houthis controlling most of northwest Yemen and the government holding the south and east.
